Budd Rail Diesel Cars - RDC s primary use was for mail/parcel & passenger service in rural areas with too low traffic for regular rail transport & short haul commuter services. The self-propelled diesel-hydraulic multiple unit railcars were cheaper to run for these services than a traditional locomotive drawn train. The Budd Rail Diesel Cars could be used alone or coupled together & controlled from the front car.
