The JR - Japan Railways Group, a group of 7 companies that took over most of the assets & operations of the Japanese National Railways in 1987. At the heart of Japans Railway network, JR operates a large amount of Japans intercity & commuter rail services that include the Shinkansen High Speed Rail lines. The JR Group is made up of independent companies, the companies are organized into 6 passenger operators & 1 nationwide freight operator. Separated by region, the 6 passenger railways of the JR Group normally run their services within the regions boundary although some long distance services go beyond the boundaries. Japan's high speed bullet trains are called Shinkansen and are operated by Japan Railways, often abbreviated as JR. The Tokaido Shinkansen, connecting Tokyo, Nagoya, Kyoto & Osaka, was inaugurated in 1964 as the first Shinkansen line and the world's first high speed train service. At that time the trains already ran at about 200 km/h. Nowadays HST reach speeds of 300 km/h. The trains operating on the Tokaido/Sanyo Shinkansen are of the following three categories: Nozomi, Hikari & Kodama. The Nozomi Shinkansen introduced in 1992 cut the travel time between Tokyo and Osaka by 30 minutes to 2 ½ hours. Nozomi trains stop only at the most important stations. They also have a train tilting system that allow the coaches to lean into corners so the train can negotiate curves at high speeds. Nozomi is a Japanese girls name meaning hope or wish. Kato Precision Railroad Models, Sekisui Kinzoku Co Ltd, is a Japanese manufacturer of model railroad equipment. Kato was established in 1957 & is based in Tokyo, Japan and in 1986 Kato USA was established. Kato manufactures models based on Japanese, North American prototypes & European high speed trains. Kato's Unitrack modular track system takes very little time to put together whether permanent or temporary, always the same result, an almost instant sturdy operational model railway enabling you more time for modelling n scale scenery and buildings. Having the Unitrack ballasted, with an integral roadbed, allows for the possibility to create scenic boards, as any of your chosen model railway displays will always be the same shape each time created, giving flexibility and choice along with easier storage if your creation has to be put away. Because the Kato Unitrack system is already ballasted it has great stability along with superior connectivity thanks to their Unijoiner concept. The Unijoiners allow sections to be snapped together quickly and securely, time and time again. Simple plug and play for all N scale modelers young or old. In a nut shell, no more faffing around with buckled warped rusty conventional track, soldering joints to avoid poor conductivity and hold the old track together. Kato recommends using a plastic compatible liquid cleaner. For stubborn spots, paint or glue on the rails it is recommended a soft rubberized abrasive eraser is used or a track cleaning car. A constant use of abrasives is NOT recommended which also includes sandpaper, steel wool & cleaning pads, any liquid that is not compatible with plastic or is of a caustic chemical compound. The Kato Unitrack precision model railway system is immense, with every conceivable railway layout catered for, including ground level concrete & Wood sleeper track sections, Risers, Viaducts, Bridges, Twin Rail, Banked Curves and much more !
